Fotiko: Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 5, 2026
Fotiko collects no data. No account, no advertising, no analytics, no Fotiko server. Your photos stay on your phone.
1. Overview
Fotiko: GPS Timestamp Camera ("Fotiko", "the App") is published by SMARTPOSITIVE SARL ("we", "us", "our"). This Privacy Policy explains what the App accesses on your phone and why.
Fotiko works on your device. It has no account, no server of its own and no analytics or advertising SDK.
2. What the App accesses, on your phone only
- Camera: to take photos.
- Precise location, while the App is open: to record the GPS position and accuracy of each photo, and on Android its GPS time. Location is never used in the background.
- Photos taken with Fotiko, on Android: saved in the
Pictures/Fotikofolder of your phone. The App cannot read your other photos. - Photos taken with Fotiko, on iPhone: saved in a "Fotiko" album of the Photos app. iOS asks for full access to your photo library, which the App uses only to save, show and share the photos taken with Fotiko. It does not read, copy or send your other photos.
The date, time, position, address, note and project name of each photo are stored in a database on your phone. Nothing is sent to us.
3. Address lookup
To show the address of a photo, the App asks the address lookup service built into your phone (provided by Google on most Android phones, and by Apple on iPhone) to convert the GPS coordinates into an address. Only the coordinates are sent, without any photo or identifier. They never reach us.
4. Maps
The maps of the App, and the mini map of the photo banner, are drawn with map tiles downloaded from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org, OpenStreetMap data). Like any website, this service receives the area being displayed and your IP address, without any photo or identifier. It never reaches us. The camera and the photos work without it.
5. Sharing
Photos leave your phone only when you share them yourself, through the share sheet of your phone, with the app and the people you choose. Shared photos may carry the date, time, position and address in the banner and in the file metadata (EXIF): check the banner settings before sharing.
6. Crash reports
The App contains no crash reporting SDK. If you have allowed it in your phone settings, Android or iOS itself may send anonymous crash and performance reports to Google Play (Android vitals) or to Apple, which we can read to fix bugs. They contain no photo, position or personal information.
7. Retention and deletion
All data stays on your phone. Deleting a photo in Fotiko deletes it from the phone. Uninstalling the App deletes its database and settings; the photos in Pictures/Fotiko on Android, or in the "Fotiko" album on iPhone, remain on your phone until you delete them.
8. Children
Fotiko is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with a new "Last updated" date.
